MENTAL HEALTHCARE TODAY

Doctors today are forced to diagnose and treat mental disorders using nothing more than an assumption based on brief patient interactions, and a list of their described symptoms.

Protocols to use objective testing, such as brain imaging and genetics, are absent. Today we have 297 identifiable behavioral disorders but recognizing a problem is just half of any solution. Objective tests are absent from all mental health diagnoses and the brains needs are never observed. Symptoms are the brain’s way of communicating, although the tools to interpret this language are not being utilized. The focus of our mental health professionals is to provide the best quality of care to their patients, but they lack access to optimal resources.
